Teach Soap

OMG made a batch of soap 2 days ago unmolded yesterday when it left a small indentation in the soap today I have black oily beads on my soap. What is that? Can I use this soap??

What's the recipe?
You could rebatch it now if it looks unappealing to you, or wipe off the sweat and let it dry for a day or so. Then test it to see if it zaps.

3 lbs distilled water
1.68 # lye
2# olive oil
2# canolla oil
2# 8 oz coconut oil
1# 8oz palm oil

I presume your oil weight is in pounds?
According to my lye calc, you would need 1 lb. 2 ozs. of lye (for around 8% superfat) and between 34 to 52 fluid ounces of liquid
1 lb. 6 ozs. of lye will be VERY lye heavy.

Because I didn't think I had anything to lose I squirted it down with vinegar. It seems to have stopped the beading. Is this going to be ok to use?

Try the zap test. If it doesn't zap when you stick the end of your tongue on a bar of the soap, then it should be OK to use. I would cut open a bar first to see if there are any pockets inside.

Do I let it cure out or try the zap test now?

try it now and then in a couple of days

Thanks everyone! It doesn't zap me will try again in a couple days but the other batch from the same receipe doesn't zap me! I wouldn't have any idea how to tell with out this site. Thanks again

Irena is right, the soap recipe did call for too much lye, but I wouldn't trash the soap. Why not grate up the soap and melt it down. That way you have a uniform batch. Use it for laundry detergent. That way the ingredients won't be wasted.
