Teach Soap

I think I shared a photo of my 'sproing' soap I made the other day?



The soap was a CP batch that I needed to make so I could pipe the top of my M&P Rainbow Cake.
The swirls were an attempt that didn't quite work. (too thick/wide).

Well I cut it up this morning and apart from a partial gel (I had just left this on the bench as it was a batch made unintentionally if that makes sense?), it has 'splotches'. Not sure exactly what they are, but I'm a wee bit scared to lick them lol!



Any ideas?

P.S. Top of the soaps look "ok" when cut. The M&P curls however nearly all broke or snapped. Even without the knife going near them...

You don't have to lick the soap. Dampen your finger, rub it over the soap, then touch that finger lightly to your tongue. Have some apple juice handy to rinse your mouth out with, just in case. It's not as bad as you think.

Before I go voluntarily doing that ... any ideas on what it might be? I would have thought fragrance oil more than lye?

It could be fragrance.

I don't know what the spots are, but the soap really looks happy!

Maybe I'm missing something, but the only splotches I see look like partial gel. Very cool looking soap even if some of the sproings broke off.

In the top photo - see the ring of gel? In the top right hand corner of that ring is a 'splotch'. Like a small egg shape? Those are through out my soap in various sizes.

Are they mostly in and around the gel ring?

Are the Sproings made of MP? Maybe they melted a little as the CP heated up.

Nah, not just in the gel spots. I think it's fragrance actually. I licked a spot just then and zero zap. Given the batter was actually made to use for the piping, I wasn't as thorough with my mixing for the rest of it as I kinda got what I needed then just chucked the rest in the loaf mold. The scent tried to sieze anyway, so I'm going to assume that's what the spots are.

Coolah, how did you manage to get them cut without destroying the sproings?

LOL ... well one bar is REALLY FAT, but that's ok, coz one bar is reeeeaaally skinny.
Mostly I just tried to cut around them. My sproings are also quite big in themselves, so more to hold it together. It was the thinner ones that broke ><
