So I was making a double batch of soap (still am actually, this one doesn't want to trace, so it's hanging out for a bit) and needed to wipe off my stick blender in between. Meanwhile Idol is on and I am watching it for once, usually I don't. I pick up the paper towel and start to wipe the stick blender with my left hand.... my right hand hits the button.... my finger was inside. Um. OUCH. Its not cut or anything, but it hurts like the blazes and I may lose the nail. Make sure you UNPLUG the stick blender when you clean it!

Then the darn FO tried to rice on me, but I whipped it into shape. And now I'm having an issue getting to trace. Even with 1% beeswax in there!!! My unscented batch for my confetti soap was definitely accelerated (which I read beeswax can do). Now to wait. Its that patience thing that Coolah and I don't have!!! GAH! :?

Thanks for the reminder. I cringed as I read that. It's not just the lye we need to be safety conscious with.

That batch did NOT want to trace either, best I could get was a medium trace, hope my spoon swirl turns out!

I'm sorry about your poor finger. I hope it gets better soon. When I'm soaping, that's all I concentrate on.

I saw your post and just had to respond...I was watching Idol too and making soap. How funny. I'm an avid idol watcher...love that Scotty McCreery- I have other faves too (David Archuleta). The talent is great this year. Let's see how it plays out. The drama was pretty intense tonight. I hope your finger gets better. Try ice or heat...whichever makes it feel better.

Sorry about your finger! Many times, when taking off the stick, I've thought to myself that if I ever make one of those you tube videos (unlikely!), I'd tell people to unplug the thing first so as to avoid just what happened to you (or a spray of raw soap!). And do I unplug it every time? Almost!

I agree with Irena... nothing but soap! I am even leary about having a cup of coffee or glass of water... never know when you could get distracted and grab the wrong thing! Hope that finger feels better! And yes I was watching Idol as well, but carring for my dog as he had 16 teeth pulled yesterday!

Hehe the worst I get is having music on while I soap, but I set it up so that a bunch plays for me so I don't have to stop to change songs...

Ouchies on the finger, so glad you didn't lose it! I worked the 000 (Oz version of 911) call center phones for a while ... the things you hear! Oiy

Generally I don't get distracted easily at all, and I don't usually have the TV on while I soap. My brain is just very pre-occupied these last few days. Finger is fine today though!!

It is all our fault! I never brushed his teeth and he got ginivitis. I should have paid attention to that commerical that has the doggie dentures on it. He is doing well, still has over half of his teeth left and will be able to eat regular food once he heals. He is a beagle and I doubt even loosing all of his teeth would have stopped him from eatting.... they are so food orientated. So guys.... start brushing those teeth on your dogs.... I'm not sure about cats?

Its the same with cats. Some have good teeth, some have very bad teeth. Dry food helps a LOT with buildup as do crunchy treats and dental chews. I recommend CET veggie dental chews and "checkups"!

Can you tell I've had a lot of pets and some veterinary experience? LOL  pets = life.

So is it easier to brush the teeth of a cat or a dog? We have always fed him dry food, given him some chews, hard treats, and rib bones from the farm store, not to mention he has gone to the vet every 6-9 months. He still mangaged to get gum disease. So now we will add the tooth brushing and yearly cleanings. I would have this done more often but they have to put the animals under to do it and I do not think that would be too good for him.
