Teach Soap

Hi All,
Subject says it all--except that I was thinking "in the shower." I cure mine for 4 weeks min, and find they last maybe 25 or so showers (that's two adults, two weeks, give or take). They have a chance to dry out between uses.

I'm hoping to find a way to make them last longer. Maybe just a longer cure?

I would say mine last about 2 weeks in the shower. I often take a second shower when I get home from work late at night...so that might be 3 showers/day a lot of the time. Of course my soaps all vary widely as far as formulation so some last longer than others.

My bar has been in the shower for 2 weeks so far and is barely smaller than when I put it in there. That's ~3 showers a day too.

Ours last about 2 weeks and that's with 5 showers & 2 baths a day. We leave our soap in the shower, sometimes the kids leave it on the floor of the shower or tub , so it doesn't get too dry in between uses.

I let mine cure in between 4-6 weeks, although the best ones are the ones that I forget about and have gotten to sit out for 3 or 4 months.

I have no idea how long mine last because it seems as tho I always have at least 5 different bars in there at any given time!

Olive oil 35%
Lard 35%
Coconut 20%
Castor 5%

And either 5% some other oil/butter (shea, grapeseed, sweet almond) or I bump the Olive up to 40%. I now add 1/2 tsp per PPO sea salt to my lye water for hardness, but the bars I am using now didn't have that. Aged ~6 weeks.

Pretty much my recipe, with lard for palm, and a slightly higher percentage. Interesting! I'm making my first sodium lactate batches now, and can try some sea salt as well. I should grab a bar that's 2+ months old and see if it's different. I'm always using the relatively new ones because I want to try them out!

I am the only one that uses my soap(family likes the liquid stuff and I haven't tried making that yet).

Anyway....
Not sure exactly how long my bars last. I guess 2 weeks give or take. Let cure for 4-6 weeks + but I use them for my hair too.

ETA- I haven't bought soap or shampoo since September.

They feel a bit drying on my hair, for some reason, though they don't on my normally dry skin. I was considering a high-castor shampoo bar as some point...
