Teach Soap

So I was very excited to find that my local Ace hardware store carries lye (Rooto household drainer cleaner - Pure Sodium Hydroxide crystals). But when I used it last night I found that no matter how long I stirred (the lye into the water), I still had very small white remnants floating around in it....I thought it was probably just some kind of residue on the container (?)...It certainly was not the undissolved crystals at the bottom...just little tiny floaties. Anyone else have experience with this? Is Rooto ok to use?

My lye is from the hardware store, I sometimes get little white floating bits but they always dissolve before the lye water is cool enough to soap with.

i used the rooto brand too.
cause it's the only brand that is legally sold here, since this is a hazardous control item.
try stirring it until the water becomes clear.
also check your water quality and your container when you weigh your lye crystal.
so far i dont have a problem with it, except sometimes some chunk of lumpy crystals.

Mine has a couple big icky brown chunks in it, I just push them aside and use the nice loose crystals

I've never seen any dark discolored chunks in my bags of lye and I've been buying them for along time.

Its probably super old, since the store rarely sells it. But it works great, heats up to ~200*F when mixed into the water (room temp water). It'll do me until I get to the US and order some from BB.
