I attempted a floral soap this morning - Rose and Lily. As soon as I added the fragrance to the batter however, it riced instantly. I couldn't get it back to any smooth consistancy, and it almost seemed to go quite dry too - in that, instead of a gloppy wet mess, it was more like trying to stir smooshed up sponge cake. A little moisture, but not much.

What do you do with your batch when that happens? Do you try to save it? Can you use riced soap? Or do you just toss it and move on?

If it's a small recipe, I would just toss it and move on, unless you want to spend extra time on rebatching, which still might not fix the problem.

Small enough that the effort of rebatching isn't worth it hehe. Geez my bin is going to smell good this week! Second batch in there lol. I could hide a dead body in there and still get away with it at the moment =p

Or that dead body could get saponified by the lye.

I had one batch rice a while back - also a floral FO. I glopped it into the loaf mould and smooshed it down (too much tech jargon for you? )

When it was time to cut - it turned out fine! The top, which is the top narrow edge of the soap, is a bit textured looking - but nothing too freaky. The interior body of the bars looks completely and suspiciously normal...

ya never know!

I had another rice on me this morning (Cherry) but with a glare, a few muttered words and the stick blender, I managed to beat it back down to a somewhat smooth texture and went ahead and poured it into the mold. Will wait till I unmold to see what it's like, I can already see one air bubble (bugger).

So riced soap in general, isn't bad in any way? As in, it's still useable, but just not that pretty? I guess I was more worried that the ricing would alter the soap somehow to make it non-useable.

Riced soap could end up with lye pockets, even small ones. I would not say that it's "generally" safe to use and I would not sell it this way.

This is this mornings riced (cherry) soap. At least it gave me a chance to have a go at a pencil line!
