I made my first batch of pine tar soap. I really want to make a good pine tar soap for my brother for Christmas!! I spent the last couple of days reading and researching pine tar soap recipes. I found that you can basically use any good soap recipe, just adjust it to contain pine tar. I did that today. I didn't use a SB because I also read that it traces VERY quickly, so I hand stirred. It did trace with in three minutes. It went from thin to applesauce in no time. I added a little eucalyptus EO to help with the tar smell. I got it in the mold, but it looks more like a brownie with ground coconut in it!! It set up pretty fast too, so I was able to take it out of the mold a little while ago. I cut it and I am just not sure that it looks right! I am adding a picture, can someone who has made this before tell me if it will be ok?? Also the recipe I used is as follows:
Lard- 8 oz
Castor oil- 2 oz
safflower oil- 6 oz
shea butter- 2 oz.
pine tar- 3 oz.
lye- 2.43 oz
water- 6.9 oz.
I might try an all lard and castor oil batch tomorrow. I only make a small batch. Maybe this will be ok..What do you think?? I am not very good at adjusting recipes yet.
