Teach Soap

Hi All,
Has anyone tried using a silicone mat to line their wooden mold? The kitchen store near me has cheat silicone mats that I've been using instead of plastic wrap on top of my molds (then laying a towel over it). And I was thinking that if I cut the mat to fit the bottom of my wooden mold... Would it work?

I line my wood molds with freezer paper and then put a cut silicone fondant mat in the bottom to make a pattern on my soap. (there's a picture somewhere on the showoff thread) It works really well.

Just be sure your mat is 100% silicone - some of them have glass fibers in them that can't be cut.

I wanted to use a loaf wooden mold and started thinking what could I use? I thought of my wooden drawers to my antique treadle sewing machine. Cleaned them and placed plastic wrap and then lined with freezer paper. The perfect size for my recipe. I love the look of the soap and the price-free! I will have to think of a design to use and be creative and of course free. This way I can purchase more soap supplies. I place plastic wrap on the top. Then a towel. The wood keeps things insulated and there was no overheating like with plastic I have used in the past.Vicki

Irena, make a template out of paper that fits into your mold, trace onto the back side of the silicone mat and just cut.
After that it is easy to trim a snipit here or there to get a perfect fit. You can do it!!
