I think I may have done something that I "thought" I read about and couldn't find again to make sure. I made a batch of Oatmeal and Honey CP soap and put it directly in the freezer after pouring. I had read that some folks prefer to not have their soaps gel. Am I crazy? Is this a bonafide process? I just spent an hour and a half looking for it again and can't find it... as my soap freezes in the freezer. I thought I had read that you could do this and it turns out just as nice (some said nicer) than insulating and allowing it to gel. I am wondering if I am in for a rude awakening.... :?

Welcome!
I don't gel and put my soaps in the fridge or the freezer; up to overnight. It's ok if the soap freezes with no ill effects.

I've done both - allowing it to gel and putting it in the fridge/freezer. I've even done force gelling in the oven. I prefer a non-gelled soap personally. I think it's smoother - think 'creamy' smooth. Where as gelled soap just has that 'soap' feel to it.

Thank you ladies soooo much for the info! This was my FIRST post and I am so pleased that there are people out there who, with knowledge, answered so quickly! I can't thank you enough... I will cut this soap today. I LOVE making soap! It has awakened me from a self-imposed sleep. I feel alive again!

Ha ha... (said sarcastically)... I started last April making soap. Loved it. I had 200 bars in my attic curing. People thought I was nuts. I gave away to anyone who would take a bar! A family vacation in VBeach with 20+ people was supplied with my soap... LIKE it or NOT! They liked it! I continue to give to family even though I am in NY and they in another state. Everyone kept saying "Why don't you sell this?".... So here I am almost a year later... starting to sell my soaps... and trying new things. I had made almost 20 different kinds and still can't settle on a few. But you are totally right... I have soap everywhere. Thank God my husband loves it... But my house? I have not found a happy medium and it is a chaotic disaster! A new thing for him.... I sure hope I find a balance. I don't bump into my precious soap.. I bump into what was displaced by it!

Just curious about putting the soap in the freezer or frig? Do you place a layer of Saran wrap on top of the soap and a lid on the mold or not? :P

Thank you so much. I am new to soaping and I am still finding my way. It's great to know that there are wonderful resources available to ask newbie questions.

So if someone were to do a decorative piped top on a loaf of CP soap ,would you still be able to wrap it (gel it) or would you just leave it out to cure? I've only done HP ,but would like to try some CP because I like the softer look of it. :D Thanks

Yep! You can cover it somehow; a box, a contraption of some sort. Just keep the towels/insulation off of the soap. There is a recent post by me about soaping equipment that is a must have, it has ideas for ways to keep the towel off your soap!

Does placing in the fridge/freezer increase the chances of ash forming?
