I just purchased a 35 pound pail of palm oil. But now I'm wondering how on earth do I heat this bad boy up so that everything is melted? Doesn't the stearic acid (among other things I can't remember right now) settle to the bottom unless pre-melted and mixed prior to using?

Yes, the stearic can sink to the bottom. Do you have a heating blanket? If so, you could wrap it around it til the oil melts. Then stir very well and portion off into smaller containers.
