Teach Soap

Hi - so I have been trying out different ways of doing milk soap. Tonight I made a batch with powdered milk...took out 2 tbsps of my measured oil, added powedered milk, mixed and then added back to oils. It seemed grainy so i used the stick blender a bit, then added lye water and stick blended. Seemed fine until i poured and then on close inspection i could still see the graininess.... What did I do wrong? What will happen with this batch??

Milk is water soluble. You would be better off mixing your lye with minimum water required. Then mix the powder into the rest of the water required for your recipe. Add the milk as soon as your oils and lye have amulsified, but before trace.

Looks like the soap gelled and I don't see any graininess anyore - hopefully it looks good when i cut it. I love the color - lavender from alkanet root infused in olive oil!

I mix powdered GM into my oils all the time and don't have a problem with graininess, but I always let my soap gel, too.
