I have just pulled my 100% castile out of the mould. It's been in the mould for just over 24 hours. Should it look like this? Is it ok to cut and will it change appearance over time to be more of an even colour?

I've just cut one slice off the very end and it looks like this in the centre. Does this mean it hasn't finished gelling? If I keep slicing it up, will it eventually gain a proper colour as it cures?

It looks like you just had a partial gel. As long as it was made properly, it will still be fine, but just look a little odd. Castile is my favorite!

Thanks! I'll continue to cut it up. Hopefully as it cures it will lighten up a bit. At least I've got a Castile under my belt now. Albeit, not a successful one, but I'll keep trying! Maybe next time, I'll just insulate it in some towels instead of using CPOP. It's all good fun to experiment!

Looks like a partial gel to me too. If it's hard enough to cut now, go ahead and cut it. It should even out as the soap cures.

Thanks again everyone! I've chopped it up into some nice big chunky bars. I even did a zap test to make sure it was all good. I'll just let it sit and do it's thing for the next few months now! In the meantime, I'll start preparing for the next batch of soap! :D

This is exactly how my first batch looked (it was a mostly OO recipe)...I did not insulate it. It has been about a week and a half now and it seems to be evening out a little bit.

Thanks JGLMom and Linda! I'm so glad to hear that it will start to even itself out. I will try that trick in a few weeks and see the difference in a few months. I'm already lining up my next batch. What am I going to do with all this soap!!

I sure will be!

I've just had a look at the soap now and even just after 24 hours it seems to be not so 'gel' like in the centre. Thanks for all your input everyone!
