is there anyone using silk in their soaps? why using silk and where can i purchase silk from?

Hi sookie! I don't use silk in my soaps, but basically it's just silk fibers that are added to the lye water until they are completely dissolved. I think they're supposed to make the soap feel silkier. You can get liquid silk too, but from what I understand, it is much more expensive.

I use silk pretty much in every batch. I feel it adds some silky feel. I use raw fibers as they cost me less then the liquid.

thanks linda for the "silk" definations, im soo curious about what silk means in soap...& i definately learn something new again

Irena, that explained that why your soap bar have such lathering feeling eventhough its dry

Interesting! If you were to add liquid silk to your batch, how does this effect your fluid levels? I read on Brambleberry that you can add up to 5% into your batch. How does it get calculated into your recipe? Sorry if this is a dumb question...
