Teach Soap

Hi I'm new to the forum and relatively new but addicted to soapmaking..... It's been a wealth of interest and information

I have made 100% Olive oil and

Lavender & Lemongrass with
10% Shea Butter
40% Coconut Oil
50% Sunflower Oil
(This was from a kit but turned out very well)

I want to make the Lavender and Lemongrass without the Coconut Oil as I can only get it online ( I don't want to use Palm Oil because of the environment and orangutans) and tried the following recipe through soapcalc but it gives the following values

Hardness 29 - 54 18
Cleansing 12 - 22 0
Conditioning 44 - 69 81
Bubbly 14 - 46 0
Creamy 16 - 48 18
Iodine 41 - 70 97
INS 136 - 165 94


My concern is that it says 0 for Cleansing.


So my question is ...... here is my recipe and do you think it will work?

10% Shea Butter
60% Olive Oil
25% Sunflower Oil
5% Grapeseed Oil

Hmm, olive oil sort of tricks a lye calc because it reads as a soft oil, even though it will give you a hard bar... but still, it seems that the balance of your oils might be a bit too soft. That's the useful thing about coconut oil, palm kernel oil and/or palm oil -- they make for a hard soap. Would you consider using lard or tallow? Those would also add a hardening component to your soaps, and are probably available in a grocery store.

I imagine others will be along with more concrete advice, though!
