So I wanted to make a batch - had the itch, you know? And my next big order of EOs isn't here yet (grrr...UPS)
I had some coconut FO that I bought at the local soap supply store. I have no idea the brand, but it is incredible in lotion bars, dry oil spray and mp. I decided (after calling the owner of the store and being assured it had absolutely NO vanillan in it) to make a batch of cp with it.
I decided to make a 100% coconut oil batch with 20% superfat. I want a really nice white bar, even had the titanium dioxide on hand to make sure.
Everything is going fine, added 2 tsp TD, stirring along - so far so good - now time to add the FO. The minute it hit the soap, this completely colorless FO turned pale electric lime green! WHAT?! My first thought was: do I have anything that smells like lime that I can add to make this color work? I thought I didn't (turns out I had some lime EO, but forgot about it.)
So I stir, no acceleration, and pour. It was a little paler now, but still that same green. And the smell - sort of like over ripe fruit. Not a bad smell, just soooo NOT coconut!
Hubby, bless his handsome heart, says he loves it and I don't have to worry about it - he will use the whole batch himself!
That was a little over a week ago, and now, if you sniff hard, close your eyes and concentrate, you can smell the coconut starting to emerge. AND it has turned WHITE - go figure!
