Teach Soap

Hi everyone,

First of all, I am a newbie soapmaker and wanted to thank you all for the time you put on this board.. I have spent the last week pouring thru this site and getting valuable information, and most of my questions answered.

I made my first batch today, came out awesome ( so far ) but I had poured some into a ice cube tray to make small samples. They are too small and not pleasantly shaped as I had waiting too long and the soap was very thick when I put them in the mold. Can i melt these down as they are and re do it ? The recipe that I used was olive oil, coconut, and palm oil. I put in some FO also ( oatmeal, milk and honey, yum.. )

Yes you can rebatch. Since this soap is still new, don't add any water. Chunk it up, put it in a crock pot and melt it til it's the consistency of mashed potatoes. The glop into a mold.

What would plan B for me ? This is my cooking weekend for the next 2 weeks and my crock pot is not available. Could I nuke these ?

Actually, never mind. I had an extra crock pot in the attic that had no lid... I have been redeemed for holding on to "stuff" .

Yay, thank goodness for extra crock pots! I have aquired any crock pot I can find for under $5

Remember, this pot is now dedicated to you soap making! Please please don't use it for food after you cook soap in it. The tinier you shred you soap, the smoother the rebatch will be. Have fun!

I hate to rebatch but when I do I use the plastic bags method and boil in water has always worked best for me.

I always rebatch in the microwave. I tried the bag/boiling water method but ended up losing too much of the soap because I couldn't keep it melted long enough to squeeze out of the bag.

I did the crock pot and it worked fine.. it was like applesauce, so I was able to get it into a small mold, we'll use that soap for the family.
