I was thinking about buying some pomace grade olive oil for making soap since it's cheaper than the virgin, extra virgin etc. I read that it has a higher percentage of non-saponifiables though. Is is still good to use for soap?

I use pomace all the time for the reasons you mentioned; it's cheaper and it's also lighter in color, so my soap is lighter.

I don't use pomace as it traces too fast for me, but it depends on your formula.

I wish it was cheaper for me but no one has it except for a supplier 40 miles from me. I can buy EVOO at Walmart for the same price as the pomace so it's not worth the drive.

I buy olive pomace oil from Soaper's Choice. It has always worked well for me. I buy 35 lbs at a time along with other bulk oils. It makes the shipping much cheaper per ounce.

I am with Linda, I get my OO at Sam's and most all of my other oils at Columbus foods aka soapers choice. Their shipping isnt bad either! I heart them for sure!

If enough people in a central area are interested you can form a coop. I have seen olive oil at 1/2 the price of Costco. Granted you need to buy a pallet at a time. But it is worth it.

All oils have risen markedly as of late. Now the cheap price for oo [in my area] is almost 10$ a gal.
Barbara, they are really great, you will love them I am sure. They ship super fast, often the same day as your order, and their prices are hard to beat, except for oo and maybe one or two other oils.

Costco is $13 a gallon but I buy in bulk at $6 a gallon, Keep what I need and resell the rest to restaurants for $8
