Teach Soap

Anyone knows a cheaper supplier to buy NaOH and KOH? I usually buy from Essential Depot but the shipping has gone up a lot. I know some people also use The Lye Guy but he's all the way in NY state and shipping is going to kill me too. BB is selling only 2lb at a time. I'm looking for 10 lb.

Certified Lye is in California. That's all I know of on the west coast.

they had the best price..(yikes...! that's a lot but now I have enough to last the rest of my life...lol...or go into business selling soap). they are located in Houston Texas and I'm in Ca., but still the price was better than anyone else I could find. The shipping will depend on how far they have to ship to where you live..

I just thought I'd add my 2 cents worth on sort of the same topic...The shipping costs on this type stuff is really getting brutal. I wanted to order a small amount of shrink wrap for some of my soaps that I give as gifts and so on..(I don't sell). SOAP GOAT sells shrink wrap by the foot, so I thought that would be a cheaper way of purchasing what I want without spending 70 or 80 dollars on wrap that would last me 5 lifetimes.

I ordered 50' of 4" @ 10 cents a foot and 50' of 6" @ 12 cents a foot. The total for the product was $11.00. Shipping and handling showed up @ $1. After I ordered it through PayPal the total cost was $19.40., but they don't tell you they ding you another $7.50 for shipping and handling.
Oh well, guess I'll just bite the bullet on this one...but, geees. 20 bucks total for 100' feet of plastic tubing...ugh...

I just buy my lye at the local Ace Hardware

They're not technically West Coast (they're in Tucson, Arizona) but Snowdrift Farms sells both sodium and potassium hydroxide in 10 pound batches.

I live in Ohio and I now buy mine from AAAchemicals, cuz, as the prev post stated, they have such great prices. Even with the shipping it is a better deal than anywhere else! It is worth your checking out in any regard.

Also, if you live anywhere near a semi-big city, you might be able to find a chemical supplier that you could do a pick-up from. (Take that, Grammar Fairy!)

I live in NE Colorado and I buy my lye from a chemical supplier in the Denver area.

One thing, though, the folks I use told me to not expect to be able to walk-in and pick the stuff up. I usually just call a day or two ahead, and it's ready when I get there.

They told me they don't do walk-ins because it cuts down on the meth makers.

I just checked aaa chemicals and for me the cost is almost exactly what I've been paying at essential depot in FL including shipping. But, it's great to know another source just in case!

Do any of these suppliers sell sodium hydroxide in flakes, like BB? They are so much easier to work with then the micro beads but I can't afford to keep paying $10/2lbs. from BB, and they won't sell it in bulk (I asked).
