Anyone ever notice difference in there lye from different suppliers? I just purchased some lye from the lye guy (because BB makes it to hard to buy from them lol) wish I could get all my stuff from BB someday anyway, it seems much stronger than the lye I was getting from Snowdrift and Soapdish, in that the fumes are stronger and the temp gets higher therefore taking longer to cool down.

The only difference I've noticed with my supplier is that if the lye is older, it doesn't heat up quite so much. But it still works the same.

Hmm, Ya maybe you got a freshly made batch from the lye guy!!..lol....have you mentioned it to him?? I mean he might be able to tell you the details.

No, but I will mention it to him. I assume it is ok, soap is turning out nice, just noticed the fumes are stronger and temp takes longer to cool down, thanks!

I ordered a bunch of lye from someone and none of it dissolved completely, instead it left little specks of lye in my soap. When I contacted them, they assured it was not old and told me that it did not matter whether or not it dissolved, that my soap should be fine. When I reiterated that it was not fine, they told me that they seriously doubted it was their lye and questioned how I knew the little specks/ pockets were lye. (I used PH test strips) I ended up pouring the lye mixture through a strainer after that and vowed never to purchase from them again. I haven't. I now buy lye from AAA and am very happy with their lye!

Well I think you should share that info with all of us cuz nobody needs to be spending their hard earned money with that vendor! I also use AAA now (have for my last 3 orders) and I really like them as well! They are closer to me than BB, so shipping is cheaper and their price is good too, plus I can order any amount that I want.

I have also noticed a difference in my lye depending where it has been bought mostly just temp differences. I have started purchasing my lye by the 50# bag from a local supplier, its much less of a hassle and I go through it pretty quick. Bought my first bag in Jan. and just bought another at the beginning of the month. I have had my lye not dissolve completely a couple times (just where there were little white flakes at the top) I just strained it and everything turned out fine.
