Teach Soap

I made a small batch of soap just to try some red colorant out. It was shea and unrefined pko. Now I find my soap with refined pko more sudsy than when I use coconut, but I found the unfined recipe even sudsy-er. I added 2nd distillation peppermint eo at about 1/2 oz per pound.

I've made pepperment soap before but this is the first soap I loved! I used on the first sweaty day of spring. I first got some suds in my nose, burned like heck, then around my eyes felt a little minty BUT MY BODY, wow I was cool and clean feeling all day and felt moisturized.

I wonder if mint does the same thing in soap that it does in food. (giving the sensation of cooling)

I love the 2nd distillation! It's sweeter then regular peppermint. I use 0.5 oz. per lb. of soap as well. You might want to put a disclaimer on your label to keep away from eyes or mucous membranes. Mint does give the impression of cooling in most products whether B&B or food.

This is my husbands favorite soap, I love it too. I always tell folks about the cooling effect of menthol when they buy it.

This brings to mind a thought I had just recently... could the FO or EO add to the bubbly factor in soap. My peppermint soap seems to suds more than some of my others and now after reading this thread I wonder even more. Next week I will begin to soap again and will repeat the receipe with a different FO and see what happens. I do agree about the scent - it is a keeper!

OK. I looked up my receipe for the peppermint and since I am in the experimental stage yet at this point, my receipe was different than most I make up. I am going to try it on Monday with a different fragrance. I will need to hide one bar for five months since that is now the age of my peppermint. Maybe this receipe is a keeper
