Teach Soap

Hi,

I'm just about to embark on my first batch this week, and the 'recipe' I have says that I need to lay my soap on brown paper to cure. Will white copier paper or even kitchen roll do, or do I really need to find brown paper?

I lay my soaps out on wax paper. But you can find brown craft paper at most store...Walmart carries it in the packaging section

Pretty much any paper will do, just as long as it has no color.

My guess is that brown paper is very good at wicking away excess moisture. (which is why fast food joints give you food in paper bags. helps absorb the steam from your french fries so they don't go soggy) While regular paper towel could be used, it might leave little particles behind.

I dunno, just a guess really. But in theory it's a good guess

I use wax paper to line my trays

Makes me wonder.... I have never used paper at all. I just put them on the drying racks so the air can circulate around them all sides?

I use trays so I can move them and stack them .

I think this falls into the "personal preference" category! I also use wax paper.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

The only thing I can think of is that colored construction paper may discolor the bottom of your soaps so they want you to avoid that? I have never used it though.

I use brown paper for curing because it is cheap. You can find it at the dollar store or up-cycle brown paper bags (just don't use the printed side). Any unprinted paper will do.
