Teach Soap

I made soap with lard, coconut and olive oil, it came out great...but the swirls are hallow, which is fine, but there are tiny crystals sitting inside the swirls, could this be lye...I hope not, that would be a shame

Try this; dampen your finger with water. Touch that finger to the crystals, then touch that finger to your tongue. Does it zap? If it does and your measurements were correct, I would rebatch. You can rinse your mouth out with juice to make your mouth feel better. Don't swallow, just rinse and spit out.

My husband did the zap test, he said it didn't zap him at all, does that mean no lye????

Is this a recipe that you made before? What was the temp of oils and lye when combined? Did you gel? If so, it's possible that it overheated and created little crystal caverns. Unless this is a batch just for yourself, I would rebatch for safety sake.

first time I made the recipe,poured at about 115,both the same temp.It did gel for sure....hubby said, lets use it in about 6 weeks will see what happens.I wouldn't give it to nobdy else...maybe my inlaws ????

Are you sure they aren't little flecks of unmixed in color? I have done that.
