Last night I infused 2 T alkanet root in a little over 2 cups of olive oil. It is a dark red wine color now. I intend to use a portion of this oil in lavender soap recipes, but the question is . . . how much should I use per lb. of soap? I think if I dump the whole thing in the soap would turn out way too dark. I would like a lighter shade of lavender/purple.

Also, if I keep the infused olive oil in the fridge, how long will it last?

Thanks.

I use an infusion that is 1.25 fl oz of alkanet ppo. Then add 2 ounces [for a 5 lb batch] of the infused oo to the other oils, before adding the lye. But the final coloring of Alkanet will depend upon the ph. of the soap. A ph of 6 will be red, 8 will be lav/purple, and higher than 8 will be more blue.
