I usually add FO at thin trace. But I've heard soapers add FO in the oil butter before mixing with lye water to avoid acceleration problem. Does it really help?

I added a new FO in with my oils before mixing to trace yesterday in a batch made with extra water in an attempt to stop it seizing. No such luck. It went into a big glob instantly. Think that FO is heading straight for the rubbish bin and others from the same maker. When talking to my husband about it I told him that I had read somewhere it is the alcohol content that causes the problem and he suggested leaving the lid of the FO for a while. Does anyone think this would work?

Fragrances made for soap should not have any alcohol in it. That's what makes them seize. Leaving the lid off of the FO won't help much. I use soap safe fragrances and add them to my cooled off oils. One way you won't forget to add them. I don't add anything at trace except oatmeal, so it stays suspended.

Thanks for your reply Soapbuddy, very much appreciated. Why then do FO cause soap to sieze when EO's don't?

Oh I see. Are there certain things to look out for that would indicate a FO or EO is likely to sieze apart from trial and error.

Most be lucky but that is one issue I have not had to date, my oils come from BB or other companys I have used for a while and I always add at a thin trace.

Panzerakc, MOTHERS RULE :!: :!: So keep trying until you figure out some way to work with this FO. By the way, which fragrance is it?

The FO I used was Dewberry from a NZ company. The smell is divine. I will make another batch tonight and see what happens this time. Think I will take earlier advice and not use the stick blender at all. Thanks for all the suggestions and help.
