Hello. I am a newer "Soaper". I have a "budget mold" from BB that I received in the kit. I have continued to use it until I decide what to purchase next. However, I have made two CP loafs in this plastic mold and have had problems with them being stuck. I put both in freezer and it helped but still stuck and some of the top came off. I am considering a wood mold but am overwhelmed by the choices. DO you have less problems with sticking with the wood molds? Also, should I purchase a wood mold with cutter? What about brand? Thanks for any tips you can give me!

I use a 2# silicone loaf mold like the one Soapbuddy shows in the "this is what gelled soap looks like" thread and I LOVE it. I've never had soap stick in it, it doesn't have to be lined and it can go into the oven or freezer. I was lucky enough to purchase 2 of them on clearance from WSP. I also have the 12 bar silicone mold from BB that I like as well. I don't have a wood mold, but may build a slab mold so I can try other types of swirl techniques. :P

I also have the silicone mold that soapbuddy has. It works well but I like my wooden molds more. Wood molds have to be lined with freezer paper or plastic - if not your soap WILL stick.

Thank you, both! I may have to go crazy and try both. I am NOT liking the plastic one. I'm wondering if the plastic ones are better for M&P. I'm new on here so Ihope this goes to the right spot! There seems to be so much information on here! Loving it!

I have several plastic molds and they definitely work better for MP, at least for me, anyway.

I made my husband built me wooden molds, we watched a" how to build a wooden mold" on you tube..and they came out great.
He put a slit in, so I can cut the soap right in the mold.It only cost a few Dollars to build...
No I have to start making soap, if I ever have time, gardening season started !!!

I have that same silicone mold for my loafs and a wooden slab mold. Both of these work so much better than the plastic. At this point I will always choose silicone if it is available. Save the plastic for the M&P.

My hubby and I made wood molds for my soap that I loved at first but then I got sick of cutting freezer paper for a liner. So then I tried using the polypropolene method for a liner and then those stuck to the soap so you have to use mineral oil on them, which I find just as much of a pain as cutting a liner because when I remove the soap I still have to use my cutter to release the soap from the mold! I just recently purchased silicone molds made by Crafters Choice and love love love them, no lining no greasing and they just pop right out! Will still use my wooden molds though because I do like the look of them and they insulate well.

I took Soapbudys advice and use heavy plastic (landscape type I had in the cellar) to line with. I cut 1/2 a dozen a year or until they wear out and just use them over and over. It's cheap and once they are cut you just pop them back into the molds and tape them down.

I am thinking that that plastic will work well for me if I do not gel in the oven, but if I
CPOP then would need to go back to the freezer paper - correct???
