Hi everyone. New here and to soap making but ready to jump in and I have a question regarding batch and mold sizes.

All the recipes I've found for CP will say one or two batches or a small batch but I have no idea how much that is and don't want to make a mold and then have a spectacular failure when I either have way too much or way too little for the mold. Could someone direct me or let me know how to figure out what size mold I need?

Thanks if advance it is appreciated. I'm trying to accept the fact that I'll screw up along the way as I tend to be a perfectionist (read a ridiculous self critic who is rarely happy with her own work ;) )

Look forward to getting started on this journey.

I know that on the brambleberry site they list the dimensions of their loaf molds. Those are for 5 and 10 pound batches. If you're looking to make soap in that quantity, those measurements would be a good place to start. :)

I use slab molds made out of scrap wood that measure 10" x 15" internally and make bars that are around 2" thick. That's for a 5 lb. batch of soap. I recently converted one of my molds to make 2.5 lb. "half batches" by the simple process of wedging a narrow piece of wood across the middle of one of my molds.

Great, thanks so much! I'm going to check out brambleberry now.

You could use an empty large milk carton if you want to make a small batch of CP soap. Just tear away the paper when you are done. :)
