Hi everyone, I was asked to sell some of my soap by the loaf/log. They want to carry them and cut them fresh as people want to purchase them by the oz. My concern is curing time. I have never held a loaf/log of soap held and sold that way, I make them and cut for curing. If I make a loaf and cure it for 6 weeks and sell it, won't it still be soft in the middle when later cut for sale :?: Thanks.

That is a good question! I've purchased soap that I've cut from a log at a soap shop, but I have no idea how long the soap cured before they put it out for sale.

A lady at our local farmers market does that here. But the soap she puts in stores is wrapped and has her label.

I saw a store where the owner sold by the loaf like that & even whholesales it that way. That's what I want to do too. I think she said that she waits only 4 weeks and then starts cutting, selling, etc. I do know she uses extreme recipes though with like 5 oils or something. I would appreciate anyone's advice on this too.

Like 4 different base oils, 3 exotic oils, 2 additives, a preservative, fragrance & color. To me, that is a lot...LOL

I find slices from a loaf softer than soaps that have been cut and cured. They also don't last as long in the shower, because not all the water has had a chance to evaporate.

BB sells soap by the loaf, why don't you write and ask how long it is cured before sale? That would be my suggestion. However long it is, I know someone that got a loaf once. She sold it at a show I was at and told me that she cut it right after she got it. She didn't ask them how long it cured though, cuz I asked her and she didnt know. Anyway, I held a piece of it and it didn't seem soft to me. But, of course I don't know how long she had it, nor how long between the show and when she actually cut it. I would be interested to know about the length of time to cure a loaf as well, so if you find out, please share.

This is the response I received from BB:

Thank you for emailing Bramble Berry!

We usually recommend 4 - 6 weeks in a well ventillated room on some sort of
rack to ensure maximum air flow. :)

Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with, and have a great
day!

This doesn't sound right they ship RAW loaves of soap? I don't think so.

Is the time frame Elizabeth recommends before or after the cut bars are made?

HEheh I don't know what I was thinking, seriously not a clue. However wouldn't just made soap be soft and perhaps get damaged in transport?
