HI SOAPMAKERS!!

Can anyone please tell me whether or not you infuse herbs into your water before adding the lye or simply add the herbs at trace?
I read in The Everything Soapmaking Book that if you infuse the herbs, the water will release more of the herbal properties? Do you find this to be true?
What is the differnce and how does it affect the fragrance of the herbs?
Do you still need to add the same amount of fragrance or essential oil to your recipe...for example a basic 3-oil 4 lb Lavender CP Recipe.

I appreciate any advice &/or suggestions!!! Thanks so much!!!

It depends on the herbs. Some relase their properties easier in water some in oil. Herbs at trace could be scratchy. It depends on which herbs. The scent of the herbs will most likely NOT carry through. You would still need to use the same amount of fragrance or essential oil.
