Hi,
Can anyone tell me what sodium lactate adds to the soap? I have seen a few recipes and I dont remember this ingredient being present. I might have missed it though. It seems that it is popular on this site, so just wanted to know what it does to the soap, I add castor for extra bubbles and I use silk for the feel.

Hi Mulberry and welcome to the forum.

It makes your soap harder. To my knowledge, that the only benefit. I've never used it......and other soapers I know personally don't use it. If you use a lot of "soft oils" it might be a good addition. But it's not a requirement to make soap......if that's what you're asking.

Depending on your recipe you might not need it. I do use it in every batch as I like how the soap feels.
