I was just curious as to whether anyone here had ever tried low temperature soapmaking like what I just read about here:

If you have tried this method, what did you think about the results?

Thanks!
Linda

I can't use that method since I use beeswax.

Ditto. I like to hot soap anyway. I like 115 to 120 then go straight to CPOP. Tell me oh fair maiden, why do you desire to try such a method?

And I thought I soaped cool? I'm usually between 95-110 and have only a five degree difference between lye and oils. The last batch I made got cooler, down to 89-90 because I used snow. I was alittle concerned, I'm always afraid of that false trace. As it was I also added goats milk just before mixing and putzed with the top so that going into the fridge was slower than normal and I got a partial gel. My question would be how do you know it is false trace and need to keep mixing? I usually feel my container to see if it is warming up but would I be able to tell if I start out that cool.
One last thought, I already wait around for the oils and lye to cool. This way would take longer and I will not leave my lye unattended even if I am home alone!

I mostly do mine at a higher temp because I am not a virtuous man. I have no patience. If I had to wait for the lye mix and the oils to cool down I would be bouncing off the walls.....well.....more than I do already.

If the oils that you use are liquid at room temp, try it. Make sure that you get a true trace and not a false trace.

Thine desires doth betray thee and shone thy truest colors.

Abandon these desires thee soapgremlins hath laden upon you and cast thy thoughts into the great abyss. Revert thee back to the day of yore when thy desire of CPOP and remain thee with that which is true. (scrap the cold soaping, it's a pain in the butt and of little benefit). At the coldest, try room temperature. Works good but getting a gel is a little tough IMHO.

I soap at room temperature and have not had any problems. I like the way my soaps look and feel when they are done :) I can unmold within about 24 hours if I need to, sometimes I wait longer, just depends.

Have you ever gotten a false trace and how did you know?

I am not a virtuous man and have no patience whatsoever. I soap hot (115 to 120) then straight into a warm oven to force a quick gel. I keep checking it every 20 or 30 minutes. Once 100% gel occurs, I remove from the oven and place in the fridge. I can usually unmold within about 2.5 to 3 hours after I pour. The bars go on the curing rack that same night. If I pour at 8:00 p.m., the bars hit the curing rack by 11:00 p.m. the same night. Mold is cleaned, supplies stored....ready for a new batch tomorrow night at 8:00. Yes, I have no life.

All my goats milk soaps are frozen solid milk that I add lye to, I do this when my oils have melted and reached 50 deg celsius (approx 105 F). By the time I have mixed my lye in thoroughly and the milk has completely melted and incorporated, I find the temp the same as the oil which is about 48-49 deg celsius ( approx 95-100 F). It always seems to come to trace pretty quickly, faster than most of my other batches made. The soaps always come out a lovely milky colour which is what I really like.
Does anyone else have the same experience?.
I don't put beeswax in with my milk soaps, you're right Soapbuddy, it wouldn't work.
I find I have more control over the frozen milk, than when they are just chilled in the fridge.
Pure Olive oil soaps made with only goats milk seem to be the nicest of them all for me, and the softest on my skin. Yum!!!!!
