Teach Soap

I just made my first batch of soap using frozen milk, which turned bright yellow when I added the lye. (I expected this-no problem!) It looks like it has gone through the gel phase and is cooling now. It's still very yellow and I was wondering if this is normal. I guess I had it in my head that milk soap should be milk colored when no coloing was added...

Nope. Sound normal to me.

J/K ljm1180. Milk is going to turn tan to light brown when you add the lye. All of my milk soap (whether it's soy milk or goat's milk) turns the same color when I add the lye. The soap turns out a golden tan to dark brown....almost black sometimes depending on which FO or EO I use. BB has a FO that's a very good seller for me; "Arabian Spice" and I make it with goat's milk. The bars turn out a very dark brown, almost black. I think it adds to the character of the soap. Another good seller is BB's Dark Rich Chocolate which also turns the soap almost black. Customers love it....especially for their children because it's made with goat's milk. What you described sounds normal to me. Just roll with the punches (Yes!!! "Idiom-Man" strikes again)

If you don't gel, the soap will come out a little lighter, but it won't be white.

Have you every tried coconut milk? I use a load of it and those soaps come out white!

It adds a property of Je ne sais pas, ah a creaminess like velvet texture especially if you don't gel! Also worth a try!

thanks, Mella. I'll try the coconut milk. My soap this morning is a creamy beige color that I think will lighten up as it cures. No ammonia smell either!

I put it in an ice tray and as soon as it is frozen into zip lock bags. Sometimes I use the whole batch and other times just half.
