I am getting ready for my second attempt at rebatching. The first try was such a miserable failure I threw it in the garbage so I didn't have to look at it. I would really hate to lose this 3 pounds of failure especially since it is my favorite shea butter recipe.

I have shredded all three pounds and it is in the crock pot. I was going to add a little water and let it set overnight then turn it on first thing in the morning. All three pounds filled the crock pot. Is that too much to do at once? If I make smaller batches, like one pound each, I will be resigning myself that the finished product will get used an embeds since the home made mold I use is a 3 pound loaf. I guess I would rather have good soap in embed than crappy bars I hate.

Yes, you can rebatch that much at once. If the soap is fairly new, you won't need much water at all. If you feel it needs it, start at 1 tsp. of water per lb. It will take some time to melt, so be patient. I would cook it on low, so the soap doesn't scorch. Be aware that it will not be pourable like CP is. More like gloppable.

Gloppable. Boy am I looking forward to that. The batch is only 3 days old. It is the stuff I didn't stir enough and some oil seperated out.

I had about a pound of trimmings from the last batch of CP that I made so I grated it and remelted in the microwave in a glass bowl covered with plastic wrap. I heated it for about 30 seconds at a time and when it started to melt I stirred it and then put the plastic back over it and heated it some more until it was pourable. It was thick, but not gloppy (Like very thick trace). It was almost as smooth as CP and after it cooled you can hardly tell the difference between the rebatch and the CP. Hope this helps.
P.S. I actually enjoy rebatching!

I am not looking forward to this at all. It seems like something has gone wrong with the last three batches of soap I have made. I am getting real discouraged.

plschrader, you have my empathy! I went through a time period like that. My soap crumbled, siezed, could not swirl, could not layer etc. Then one day I had a beer with the soap gremlins and all has been good since then. I'm sending a hug your way...

Then actually french milled would not be that great of soap since the glycerin is removed, right?

I don't like the looks of the rebactch soap at all. I am going to slice it thicker than my other bars, try to give it a clever name and see if anyone is interested in it.

I made some plain unscented soap to try Handmilling. I read a recipe in a book. It was a complete disastor. I added the amt of water the book called for and it was way to much. The soap was to fresh to add that much water I have found out since.
I just did a rebatch of some older more dry soaps that I had leftovers from and it is so ugly colored. I had one that had a morp color that looked like chocolate from a strawberry FO. I decided to add some oaptmeal when I got ready to glop into mold. I added some OMH FO but with the previous FO in the soaps It stinks to me. My DH likes it though. It sure has good lather and bubbles even if it a ugly color and stinks to me. I think it will be a very nice hard bar. I am planning on rebatching again until I get this thing down.
I wonder if i can add salt bar peices to the mix?
