Teach Soap

Here's a pic of some beautiful soap that I really admire:


How do people use dried flowers to decorate the top of their soaps? I would think they would turn brown. Or does only the bottom part (the part that anchors in the soap) turn brown and the top part stays pretty? I do realize those dried flowers won't last when the soap is used, but they sure add a lot to the beauty of the soap (in my opinion).

Midnight Storm, if you look through her photos (DeShawn's) you will see that many of the flowers in the soaps are brown. She does her best with the photography to hide that, like not focusing in on the brown flowers, but if you look closely, it's there.
I agree, they are pretty, but for how long? I don't have the answer to that question.

Your best bet would be, try a small batch and just put flowers on top. Then, check the soap every week and make notes as to what the petals are doing, or take photos each week and watch the progression. This is what I do when testing, I take a picture every day with my camera phone of the product in testing and then, after 6 weeks, just download them onto my computer and watch a little slide show.

Here's one I made in November. As long as they're on top I don't have problems with browning.

I've found that if I press some dried flowers on the top of the soap AFTER I take it out of the mold the next day they so far
haven't turned brown. The soap is still soft enough to press them into the top. I tried putting them on as
soon as I poured the soap into the mold and they turned brown during the 24 hour covered cure.
I'll be curious to see if the flowers I added after the gel will remain nice.
