I plan to make a moisturizing bar that has both shea butter and cocoa butter. Will kaolin clay add anything to this bar? I have heard it is good in a bar for oily skin and as a slippering agent. What is the amount to add per pound.

It depends how much you take as a lye discount (also called superfat). I would add 1 tsp. per lb. of soap of kaolin clay.

How does it differ with your lye discount? Is it an ingredient that needs to be entered into a lye calculator?

The lower the lye discount the more cleansing the soap will be, the less of clay you would need. For safety (especially with small batches), I would not go below 5% lye discount (or superfat).

I never go below 5% on any of my soaps. Do you think the clay will do anything to enhance a soap that is

Sweet almond oil 2.5%
Avacado oil 7.5%
Castor 2.5%
cocoa butter 6.25%
olive oil 37.5%
palm oil 11.25%
palm kernel oil 5%
shea butter 8.75%
