I was wondering why it is necessary for soap to cure for 4 to 6 weeks. I know it gets a bit milder
and harder, but Susan Cavitch in "The Soapmaker's Companion" book recommends a 3 week cure.
I've tried my soap after 3 weeks and it seems great. Do I really have to wait the 4 weeks?

4 weeks is preferable because water is still evaporating, which will make the soap harder and last longer in your shower.

Thanks - my soap has cured for a little over 3 weeks, so I feel safe selling it to friends who want to
use them as gifts. By the time they will be used they will be over 5 weeks cured. I'm assuming
they will continue to cure even though they are partially wrapped in paper?

After 6 weeks they should be completely cured. Depending how you wrapped them in your paper, the paper might become a little loose.
