I had read somewhere that if you needed to speed up cure time on your batch you could put your mold wrapped in towels in the oven. I can't remember where I read this. Has anyone tried this, does it work and what are the particulars?

Thanks!!

No. Your soap still need some cure time. If you put your mold in the oven and your soap goes through gel, it's the same thing as hot process soap.

I think what you are referring to is CPOP (cold process oven process) soap. There are several great posts about it on this forum. Basically you put it in the oven at 170 degrees until it reaches gel, then turn the oven off and let it sit in the oven until it cools. If you are going to try this, don't wrap it in towels and be sure to use a heat safe mold.

I agree with soapbuddy, you'll still want some cure time. I know some people do use it immediately, but I'm curious about that... Most people who force gel by insulating with blankets let their soap cure, so what exactly is different about it if you let it gel in the oven instead?

To me, gel is gel; whether with blankets or in the oven.

I do this 100% of the time at the moment because I have so many markets I needed my soap to be ready quickly.

I have wooden moulds that fit into my oven. I made them myself and I can fit 4 in at a time.

Once the soap has traced and I've added scent and colour I mould as normal, but then I put in the oven with the oven turned on to 170F for 2 hours (that's 90C). Then I turn the oven off and leave everything as it is overnight.

The next morning I take them out of the moulds and put to one side while I make the next batch. At some point during the day I'll cut them - sometimes waiting until the next day if they are still a bit soft.

They are ready to use right away - but they are still soft. Leaving them cure makes them harder. However, they do go harder quicker as well. Mine are hard enough to label within a week and I try them out after 4 or 5 days.

It's called in the mould hot process (ITMHP) and it is VERY different from hot process as the soap still looks exactly like cp soap.
