Teach Soap

Hey guys I've been looking at the ingrediants lists on handmade soaps at various retail locations & I did see one that did not list the Lye but simply listed " Sapoanofied oils of Palm, coconut,canola" I mean there really isn't any Lye left in the finished product right?
Do you guys think its o.k. to list ingrediants this way? & leave the Lye out entirely?
Also I'd like list my fragrances as " essence of " Lavender, Sandle wood or what have you it just sounds nicer to me & I believe the definition of "Essence" is : a perfume; scent.
What do you guys think?

I put sodium hydroxide at the very end of my list and I put the name of the fragrance oil ie: Sandalwood fragrance oil or if it's an essential oil I put Lavender Essential oil. I list the oils plainly, Palm Oil, Sunflower Oil, etc.. I guess I just like it simple and easy to understand.

At my last show, I traded a bar with another soaper and he didn't list the fragrance, the coloring or the lye...and then he had the nerve to tell me my soap wasn't natural because I used lye...He wouldn't even share what he used to make the nice blue color in his soap..said he couldn't give out his secret recipe. I just politely walked away..and secretly hoped his wife liked my soap better lol

Well he must be a magician Because I don't know of Any soap that didn't start with Lye in the beginning even M & P, how did he get away with out listing his ingrediants? Is that even legal?

When I list the lye I will type, NaOH, the chemical abbreviation for it. I did this to save room on the label. Now I realize that most people do not know what that is... I did not mean to be secreative about it, just needed room. I also do not use saponified oil of... due to label size. I do list fragrance and esp. coloring because of possible allergies. Too bad for that other soaper... what goes around comes around!

If I did my research correctly, I think if you just sell soap and label it just as soap, no medical claims like moisturizing, acne treatment, etc..then you DON'T have to list your ingredients BUT for our customers sake ie: allergies, it's best to list everything. I would think all customers, friends and family would want to know. I do know if you making it for a salon to carry, etc..they will require you to list everything and it must be wrapped, but that may just be my experience. Can someone chime in that knows for sure, I don't want to give out bad information.

Agreed, No Lye, No Soap.
