I have been having some trouble with seizing so I have been trying some different things to keep that from happening. Recently I made a batch of soap and used Brambleberry Rain FO. Last time I use it my soap seized.

One of the suggestions I read said use three times the amount of water as lye. If you use 7 ounces of lye use 21 ounces of water. This I did. But then I also added 3 ounces of FO and maybe one ounce of diluted lab colors.

My soap is really soft. I just cut it last night and it has been out of the mold a week. Do you think the darn stuff will finally dry out?? Maybe by Christmas?

I use a 33% lye solution on some of my batches. What was the total amount of oils that you used? For me, 3 ozs. of fragrance would be enough to add to more than a 3 lb. batch. I usually use 0.75 oz. of FO per lb. of oils. If you know ahead of time that the FO will seize, I would HP that puppy and add the FO after the cook. Does your formula have both hard and soft oils?

I had cocoa butter plus castor, sunflower, coconut, soybean and lard. This is a 3 pound batch. I have made this recipe many times but never with that much water. I have never HP. Maybe I should look into that.

By the way, soapbuddy, that software you suggested in another post looks very interesting.

Some people have had good luck adding liquid lecithin to their soap to help prevent seizing. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I would say it's worth a try if you want to make a small batch.
