I just made my first HP beer soap tonight. I scented it with Vetiver and Cedarwood e.o. Everything went very well and the gel was total : no zap at all, etc.

Therefore - maybe I have been too much "into it", but I find that my (still hot) soap has a yeast smell, apart the ones of the e.o.

I used (unfortunately) a 8.4% beer. It was very flat and I heated it a bit.

What about your experience with beer soap ? Is there a kind of beer we should avoid ? I want to make another batch tomorrow with Guiness, just to try...

Anyway, I cross my fingers, hoping that this bad smell has faded away tomorrow morning ! I musts say that I never drink beer : I don't like the smell.

edited : this morning, the smell is better. I read in many places that the beer soap does not smell beer but this is not totally true (IMO).

Give it some time. That smell will mellow out.

Thank you Soapbuddy. I see that it mellows... Anyway, in the future, I will save my precious Vetiver for something else !
I found a very interesting link that greatly helped me : http://www.natural-skincare-made-easy.o ... -soap.html
I had it on my screen while working. Probably everybody knows it, but then...

I use Guiness to make my beer soap and scent it with patchoulli. After the bar is fully cured ( 6 weeeks ) any hint of the beer seems to be gone and 6 months after the batch was made it is the same. Maybe the patchoulli is covering it but any hint of a beer smell is gone as far as I can tell.
