Teach Soap

Some of my family members, female, think their skin is too oily for homemade soap to be an effective cleaner for them. My daughter thinks she needs to shower with her store bought deodorant soap to get clean. I have told her about the chemicals in store bought soap and how my soaps naturally have glycerine in them. I guess she thinks my soap isn't strog enough to get her clean. What can I tell her???

She's probably thinking how squaky "clean" her product makes her skin. That's because hers strips all the oil from her skin. This sends the message to her body; send more oil! It becomes a vicious cycle.
Handmade soap is gentle, leaving some of the natural oils behind to protect the skin. Handmade soap doesn't strip the skin of the protective mantle unlike the store bought stuff. Handmade soap is naturally anti-bacterial without any added ingredients. And yes, it has natural glycerin which is a humectant. It helps to attract moisture to her skin from the air.

I completely understand!! I have normal/oily skin and I used to share your daughter's attitude. I had tried some "natural" soaps in the past and hated the lack of lather and icky feel they left on my skin...of course these soaps were mass-produced, but in my ignorance, I didn't realize that this was the problem, LOL! Maybe your daughter had a similar experience?
A couple of years ago I bought some CP soap just because it smelled sooo good..I thought that if nothing else, I'll just enjoy the smell and then use my commercial soap afterward. WOW!!! This hard soap made a nice lather, rinsed off clean, and made my skin feel shockingly good when I dried off!! Turned me into a total devotee of this soapmaker...I seriously thought they had some secret magical formula or something, until I tried a soap from a different CP soapmaker, and it was just as wonderful!

I think I would make her a chocolate (lot of cocoa butter) soap, with 5% castor oil. It produces so much lather that she would love it. I think that the smell is the no 1 factor that makes people choosing a soap. If she gets a lot of lather from her soap, maybe she would like it and feel it really cleanes her skin. ... also, if your daughter is an adolescent, this is normal that if her mother makes soap... maybe it is not the best thing to use... This happens...

Kids tend to believe what they see on TV. Thats why P&G pays add companys millions of $ each year.
