Hi all,

For those who make your own laundry detergent, here's a question for you!

I have read that you can use your own CP soap in place of store bought soap (along with borax & washing soda). I have also read on this site that 100% coconut w/0% sf works well. My question is ... can I use a regular CP bar that has OO, CO, PO, shea, castor, etc...? I don't know if I can wait 4 weeks for a new batch of 100% CO to cure :) Thanks

Regular soap is normally superfatted. Using it for laundry soap could make your clothes dingy. I would wait.

OK, thanks Soapbuddy...you came to the rescue yet again :)

How much EO to add to the laundry soap? Do you add the recommended amount for PPO, or the whole recipe (with borax, etc...)?

For laundry I would add 0.5 oz. of scent as a general rule to the amount of soap, not including borax or any other additives.

Thanks again Soapbuddy!

One more question (I promise :) ) before I make a batch of soap this morning...do I have to let the 100% CO; 0% SF soap cure for 4 weeks, or can I use it as soon as I am able to grate it?

WOW, this never happened to me before. There are 2 very little peaks with cracks on top. What does that mean? I made 100% CO soap with 0% SF...is that normal to peak/crack? Is it beacause of 0% SF? HELLLLLPPPPPP. BTW, my oils were at 100 degrees F. & my lye was at about 105 degrees F.

WHEW!!!! I unwrapped it & threw it in the fridge, is that OK?

Why did this overheat (only CO, no SF, etc...)? I have made milk soaps with honey & they have never overheated, of course they went right into the fridge uninsulated! :)

So the big question is, can I still grate the overheated soap once it cools & use it in a laundry soap formula?

Thanks so much for your help!

My husband's stinky clothes thanks you :)

I used a WSP silicone log mold. What would "seperated" soap look like? Just so I know for the future.
