yay! I just unmolded my very first batch of soap! It looks like it went well.

I used a stick blender, I followed directions very carefully on every step, and measured as precisely as possible. :)
For the 3 pound recipe I used 2 oz of Energy fragrance. And the bars smell just right. Not too strong, but not too mild either.

I used
25% Coconut Oil
25% Palm Oil
25% Olive oil
10% Avocado Oil
10% Castor oil
5% Jojoba oil

Superfatted at 5%.

I poured at a medium trace. Basically, it poured easily, without glopping, but it still had a light pudding constancy.

I noticed only in the first mold I poured into I had a bit of yellow spotting. I did the tongue test, but it tasted like soap. No zap.
And one of the bars got a little wrecked in the un-molding process. Oh well! Success for a first timer???

Good job Kat. I like the quilted top! We learn something from each batch we make.

Neato! So you've just unmolded them and now will have the curing process right? I just made my first CP batch on the 16th, unmolded yesterday and sliced. Should I be testing them for lye now or after the curing process of 4-6 weeks? I still wore gloves yesterday and didn't swipe my tongue across because I thought the lye was still present . . . could someone clarify that point for me?

I guess I'm not getting the "zap" thing - I put my tongue on the bar of soap (albeit just the tip and very hesitantly). I didnt feel zapped, it was just . . . umm tart? to my tongue. 2 days old at that point.

Nice soap! :D Good job for your first batch!

I remember my first batch of CP, what a disaster, they never went hard, they just stayed like jelly and ended up with orange dots

That looks fantastic! I love the quilted top as well!

I will agree that you will KNOW if you're getting zapped. I haven't been zapped testing it out, but somehow a stray bubble must have popped out when I hot processed the first time and I KNEW! It hit my lip and man it was nasty, a little water and vinegar and I was fine (wish I'd have known about apple juice LOL). I have a feeling that if it's going to be bad, you'd be feeling tingly before you even get your tongue on the bar.
