Teach Soap

I've noticed alot of the people doing swirling, and the tutorials, all seem to show flat molds. Would the same technique work in a loaf mold, or are there special techniques?

Btw, all the swirling on the stickied photo sharing thread are fantastic! Here I am hoping to pull off a two color swirl and you guys are over there with three and more!

I'm definitely not an expert! I've only swirled twice and the first was a mess LOL I poured way too late the first time and it just was a gloppy mess. The second time I knew to take soap out at a light trace for the color and go quicker. I did it in my loaf mold and the main thing I would've changed would've been to hold my container up high so it would go down farther. That's been the harder thing than the top for me. I just drizzled lines of the color in an S shape along the loaf and then up and down. I took a skewer stick and drug lines through it straight down.

I think that if you get the pouring consistency right, the actual swirling isn't too hard. good luck!

I tried a couple.. the first was more like a layered look... should have gone up higer and a thinner trace. The second I did an 'in the pot' swirl. Colored some of the soap, poured back in the pot at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock. Took a spoon stired clockwise twice and poured into my loaf mold. I liked the swirl. Most seasoned soapers will be able to tell one technique from another... I think that is neat! This is a photo of my soap.

Sometimes A Mistake is so much fun, You just have to do it again!

I make swirls in a loaf or a log mold. You have to pour at a thin trace, then swirl. Not too much though, or your soap colors could end up muddy.

That looks great Bubbles. I kinda did that with this basic chocolate/peppermint soap recipe I pulled from one of my books. I mixed in a chocolate/cocoa oil blend into the base soap, but only a little to leave the swirled look. I'm hoping that comes out in the final product, but it's been so so humid here I've been afraid to cut it and see. I might just turn on the A/C tomorrow and let my soaps dry out.

Its great to know that swirling can be done in the loaf mold, I was getting a little worried!
