Hi all,

I made a batch of soap yesterday with the recipe for the Valentine's CP soap on Soapqueen's blog.

Here's the recipe:

Olive 50 oz.
Coconut 5.7 oz
Palm 5.7 oz

Water 22 oz
lye 8.25 oz

5% superfat.
I used Relaxing F/O from Brambleberry.

I had no problems with the batch, it came together fine, nice light to medium trace, had time to do ITP swirl and actually decorate the top, too. Popped it into a 170 degree oven for 1 hour and then into towels. It got to full gel, but didn't split the top or show like it was overheating. When I cut the loaf, I found patches of light yellow! Here's some photos:
In the loaf mold:

Is this seperation. There is no zap, but I don't know what would have caused the yellow patchs. Any information would be great. TIA

Looks like it wasn't mixed well enough. Did you use a stick blender? What was the temp when you combined your lye & oils?

I did use a stick blender. I added the Relaxing F/O and Titanium Dioxide to the oils before adding the lye/water to those. The oils were around 90 degrees and the lye/water was around 100. I mixed until incorporated, poured some into the 2 measuring cups for swirl color, then went back to the main batch. I stick blended it until I reached light to medium trace, then went back the 2 measuring cups to mix the colors that I used for swirls. I took my time, but made sure it was at trace before pouring the colors for an ITP swirl and then pouring the whole batch into the mold.

Is there a vanilla content in your FO?

Yes I used Relaxing F/O from Brambleberry. Would it discolor like that in patches? I added the F/O and Titanium Dioxide to the oils and blended them before adding lye/water, so they should have been well incorporated in the batch.

Relaxing turned a dark dark brown for me. I have never used Titanium Dioxide, so not much help with that. Maybe you didn't use enough? I'll bet the soap gets darker as time passes. It's very pretty though--- nice job on the swirl!
