I will NEVER do it again!

Er....ok, I will never try to cook 5# in a stock pot. Because when it foams up, ummmm....2" of head room is NOT enough. Not. IS.Not>ENOUGH. And like a ninny, I saw it starting to get bigger. And I was like, mmmmmkay....just a little puffy ness. Just a little...K. Little more. Um...ok. NOw it's getting toward the lip....Ok, it's puffy at the to.....p CRAP. crapCRAPcRAPcraaaaaahhhp! Grabbed a bowl to put the excess in. Stove is covered with zappy soap. Crap. I think it cleaned the glass though...we've got one of those flat-top stoves. Heh.

And it all worked out...save for my VERY minty eyeballs from the fumes. GAH!

So, let that be a lesson to ya. Stock pot = 3# or less. But that's just a guess.

Sorry that made me laugh. That's one of the reasons why I won't do straight process on top of the stove. I take that same pot and put it in the oven on low if need be.

So, if it DOES go in the oven, on low, will it not puff up? Does it just turn over on itself while it goes through puffy to liquid, to taters?

I'll have to admit after all the excitement toned down, I was like....Ooooh...I can see it....the taters! The taters!

Thanks for giving me the smiles! And sorry about your troubles. I have been looking for something to clean my ceramic cook top... maybe this is the solution.

Just as long as I know that I didn't use a lot of honey or a fragrance that can overheat, it's fine in the oven on low. I don't get any puffing and I don't stir it til it's in complete gel.

Vinca Leaf.....my side hurts from laughing so hard. I actually had to read it twice because it was so good!!! I'm sorry it happened but thank you for the laugh!!

My OvenHP and InTheMoldHP just sit and gel in the oven. Only if it has a higher amount of Coconut than my regular recipes does it climb a little in the stock pot. Smaller batches in a bigger pot until you know what it will do.

HP really rocks when you get the hang of it! I started cooking my soap from the third batch (10 yrs ago) and haven't looked back.

I set my oven at 190 F. Put my wooden mold in and turn the oven off and then forget about it until the next day. Unless I'm doing salt bars and then I watch the clock so I can still cut them!
