Well I did my fifth CP batch this afternoon. Wow it turned out so lovely the peaks and troughs were looking outstanding, such fun, standing tall. Then I put it into a 170 over for 1 hour. It did gel and it did ruin the texture that was so lovely, drat that. Perhaps the 8X8 mold was too shallow and I should have used a LOAF! Who knows!

So every batch so far there have been un planned variables, no matter how hard I try there is an interuption in the thought process and some of the measuring goes astray. Colors, oils, in previous batches. This batch the mind went blank when measuring two FO's. I think I caught it in time, however I have some mixed FO's I had to pull out. My consentration on the lye measurements and getting it and the water right and mixed and kept safe, seems to be all I can manage!!

Tomorrow when I unmold and cut I'll perhaps share a photo or two of the flat bars!! Wish me luck.

Some days are like that. I hope all your soaps come out fine.

I had about 10 batches in a row last year that turned out JUST awful, and I was like "WHY me???" no matter what I did, it seemed like I was doomed.

I hope you are pleasantly surprised. You remind me of a recent salt bar I did, where I made one goof after another. Tried sea salt instead of regular salt (I'm going back to regular); tried two colors instead of one; forgot the fragrance and tried to add it after pouring into the mold; and finally left the oven on longer than I'd intended. The results weren't pretty, but I have to say it was yet another learning experience. Good luck. Hope you have a keeper. :)

Well I haven't cut this soap, but I did take it out of the 8X8silicone mold. Now I know this soap traced thickly and had a nice texture when I put it into the oven at 170 degrees for one hour. It lost it texture, it did a solid gel I saw that clearly.

So when I took it out of the mold a bit ago, it is zappy. Whoa I tested it and the spot I tested turned bright pink over about 1/2 hour. Should this be happening to a gelled soap 24 hours after being made? Something doesn't seem right about this. I do not remember any of the other soaps I have made feeling zappy. Will this go away in time?

Thank you for any guidance. :?

Soapbuddy you are always so reassuring. Thanks loads. Patience is a virtue I'm striving to grasp! Sp I'll hold my horses for 1 week perhaps.

Well I did cut these today. They seem to be fine after my panic of the 19thLOL. So I will mark their cure date and begin their cure and we'll see in about 3 weeks how this batch went. They don't feel zappy at all, but after their cure I will test to be sure with the pheno.

The tops are rather plain so I experimented with a touch of glitter on one, a few dried blooms on another and I also did different cut bar sizes to see which I really prefer in my hand. YES the fragrance that got away from me while measuring is potent!

Those look great. What was your fragrance? I love the colors.
