Teach Soap

Ok well I just did my third batch. I use all the same equipment each time, however today I made two mistakes.

1. I used my stainless steel 1/2 tsp measureing spoon to measure a FO, does that mean it is ruined to use for food now?

2. I grabbed my favorite Pyrex 4 cup measuring cup and put raw soap in it to color. Is it ruined also?

I think in the future I will mark all soaping equipment with black felt tip pen on the outside to keep them seperate, but did I ruin the above items?

You may get some varying opinions. In my mind pyrex and SS are probably not going to be a problem. I'd be more concerned if it was wood or plastic and if it was used for lye... but frankly even then I wouldn't be too concerned for a one time lapse.

That said I do keep a seperate storage area for all of my soaping tools and whenever it is practical I DO mark them with permanent marker so that they are only used for soap.

I have a seperate set of measuring spoons I keep with my soap stuff. But the pyrex measuring cups, I use the same ones I use for food to color portions of my soap. I haven't noticed that they keep the smell or anything. I use a presto fryer to melt my waxes, butters and oils, but never put my fragrance oils in until after I empty it out into my mixing bucket or big pyrex measuring cup. I don't want the fragrance oils ruining it for frying foods.

Stainless steel and glass should be fine. Eventually you might want to get a set dedicated to soaping.

Thanks Mickey, bayougirl and Soapbuddy! I was hoping that the glass and stainless would be ok. I appreciate your responding. As you say wood and plastic would be real iffy but the glass and ss should be fine for one lapse.

I do have secondhand store SS and Glass to use, but I had so many hands going at once, contaminating stuff, coloring this and that and putting frufru here and there, that I just grabbed to get it done!
