I made my second batch of soap, a shaving soap, and put it in a plastic mold. The problem was taking it out. It came out but a small amount off the top of the soap stuck in the mold, mostly around the outside edge. What did I do wrong? I left it for 20 hours and it had gelled and cooled. Should I have left it longer or should I have greased the mold.? What is the best thing to use to grease it? The first batch of soap I did in a wood mold lined with freezer paper using the CPOP method, came out great. I have to say I read everything on this forum and have learned more from you than from books and am so glad I found you. :D

The easiest way to get it out cleanly is to put it into the freezer for at least an hour ( more if its a bigger mold). It should pop right out after that. You can then let it warm up to room temp proir to cutting.

If you used a round PVC mold, let it freeze, then run hot water over the outside. That should help.

It was a flexible flat 8X8 mold. I think the freezing would have done it. I'll try that next time.

Thanks

I would like to put my CP soap into the guest size molds purchased from Bramble Berry (4 cavaties-2.8 oz each). Should I oil or not oil the mold? If I don't oil, will the freezing method of removing the soap work?

A few weeks ago, I poured some extra CP into 2 heart molds which had a raised decoration on top. I lightly oiled them with mineral oil first and wiped off any excess oil. However, the soap was green (mica colorant) and the raised decoration turned white! I need help as I don't want to ruin my soap!

Try adding sodium lactate or beeswax to your batch at 1% each.

Thank you for your suggestions. I've worked with bees wax before but find that it has a much higher melting point and sets up quickly after trace. My soap turned out with odd shaped circles that made it look like there was something wrong with it. However, it was great, creamy sudsy soap.

I guess will try the freezing once the soap has gone thru the 24 hour period of sponification. Scientifically, it make sense and should work.

Thanks to both of you. :D
