Teach Soap

I want to try some color in my cp soap. I have used rosehip seeds, rosemary etc. and I have used some mica that morphed. I am just making this for the family so I just want something reliable

My personal favorites include: FD&C Blue (morphs to a beautiful purple in CP), oxides (all colors), ultramarines, and spices such as paprika, turmeric, cinnamon.

Just something I want to share:

During the summer I love to eat watermelon and have "seed spitting" contests with my young daughter. My wife is more formal and eats it with a knife & fork from a plate. After dinner I noted all the "drippings" (watermelon juice) on the plate and started collecting it in a jar. I decided to try to make soap with it thinking the natural sugars would boost the lather. It boosted the lather tremendously. It also turned from a light pink to vomit green (if that's a real color....you get the picture) when I added the lye. It was 50/50 juice/water mix. After a few minutes it turned to a dark crimson red....much more suitable to my tastes. The end result is a light....almost florescent orange bar of soap. I purchased another late season melon and froze the juice in ice cube trays. I make it scented with a orange-plumeria mix. Try it if you get desperate sometime as it makes beautiful soap.

I haven't noticed too much grit with paprika as long as you don't overdo it.....basically go for a nice peach color. You could infuse it with some oil or tea (haven't done this personally) if you don't want the grit at all. Personally, I like the slightly "textured" look that the spices give, so I use them carefully.

Oxides and ultramarines are some of the friendliest colorants I've used. I personally keep Brambleberry's Red Brick, Chromium Green oxides on hand as well as ultramarines in blue and pink (the violet I have covered). I just mix the oxides in a teeny bit of oil and add at trace. I like to mix my ultramarines into the lye water if I'm going for a single color soap, or into a tiny bit of water before I add them at trace.

I have generally found them VERY predictable and fun to use.
