Has anybody made a bar of laundry soap?

I'm thinking of using Lard, coconut oil and water with a superfatting of 3%. i want to make this since i make my own landry soap but I'm tired of buying Fel - Naphta and octagon.

I've been searching for a recipe but have not found any.

Thanks for your input.

Try 100% coconut with 0% superfat.

I'm gonna do 3 batches 0% superfatting coconut oil , 0% superfatting Lard and a 0% superfatting lard coconut batch and let you all know what works best.

I made a 100% coconut soap with a 1% discount (just for error) and scented with lavender EO. It's works like a charm in the laundry but I make dry laundry soap (shredded soap, washing soda, borax, and Oxyclean). I couldn't get it to gel for anything for liquid soap though??? I also found that I can use that soap mixed with water as an insecticide in the garden! It works well and is much, much cheaper than the store bought Safer Soap insecticide.

did the results of coconut vs lard ever get posted? I was thinking of using 100% palm since palm and lard have a similar profile (hardness, lather, etc)... I used Palm for tooth soap and it's a nice hard bar....
Has anyone used Palm... I could use coconut too but I have way too much palm at the moment anyway...
also, I'm thinking of using Energy FO in the soap, and probably at 4% since the soap will be grated and mixed with borax, bicarb soda, and washing soda, and I would like it to smell nice still after all the mixing!
comments anyone?
Thanks :)

Instead of adding a fragrance to the soap, why don't you add a drop to a fabric softener sheet instead? You'll need less that way.

That is a good idea Soapbuddy but...
We don't have a dryer! It's a bit of a bummer in Winter when it rains for a week! But in Summer, clothes put on the line in the morning are dry by Noon!
But I see your point, it would make for a less expensive solution, wouldn't it?
Although I also wondered if I could put the FO with the detergent, when it's all ground up and ready to go, but I'm afraid of clumping, and not sure if that would be a good idea...

Commercial laundry soap is so cheap, but I love making my own, makes me feel like I'm contributing something to something... (same as home made shampoo, not cheap, but so much nicer!)

Thanks Soapbuddy, I'll keep that in mind for when/if we get a dryer one day!

Bummer you don't have a dryer. Could you do a 100% lard soap with 0% superfat with the fragrance? I'm just not sure how well the fragrance would incorporate after.

yeah, not sure about the fragrance either. I might try it with a cheaper kind of soap fragrance instead of using my lovely BB ones, for a test!! But the quality might be different too.
I could go unscented, and just use a laundry spritzer before putting them on the line if I really wanted to.
Hmm, I'll keep thinking about that one.
I don't use lard in soap, it's not easy to find, and I have a ton (just about!) of coconut and palm oil (ok, not a ton, but 10+ kilos!)... I could use coconut as I've seen it mentioned before but was wondering since Palm is so similar to Lard in some ways, if I couldn't use that.

hmmm... food for thought!

I use home made laundry soap and I put white vinegar into the fabric softener dispenser. I then add a couple of drops of FO to the vinegar and stir it in... if you don't have a fabric softener dispenser you could probably do the same thing with a downy ball. This does a great job.

I use my soap scraps mixed with water ( desolved ) in my laundry as a way to recycle . We all have soap and scraps that didn't turn out well enough to sell .And I wouldn't waste all that good material so It gets used in the laundry. I've been reading what is in laundry detergent and that it leaves a residue on your clothes that lay on your skin all day. So if Im making my own soap why not use some of it on my laundry.
